Have you ever gone on vacation with your cell phone and a month later received a gigantic bill. Last year I went on a ski vacation to Whistler BC. Knowing I was out of the US I used my phone sparingly. Well, sort of. I did not make any calls but used my email everyday for the whole week. Between that and texts, my typical iPhone/AT&T bill went from around $100 to over $1100!
AT&T was good enough to change my plan and reduce my bill over $700. But that still left me with triple my normal monthly charges. Here are some good ways to avoid this before your next vacation.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with AT&T and the huge roaming bills. Even though you successfully negotiated down your bill, I wanted to add--with some admittedly unsolicited but friendly advice--that you still may be able to seriously cut those expenses even more. We tend to think of wireless costs as fixed, but you can tinker with your plan to optimize your features to best suit your usage and often save significant cash in the process. I know this because I work in the consumer advocacy division of the company Validas, where we electronically audit and subsequently reduce the average cell bill by 22 percent through our website, http://www.fixmycellbill.com (and I'll add that 22 percent equates to over $450 per year for the average user). Put simply, Validas guards against frivolous and unnecessary charges that inflate your cell bill more than it should be for your usage. You can find out for free if fixmycellbill.com can modify your plan to better suit your needs by going to the website.
ReplyDeleteFor more info, check out Validas in the national news media, most recently on Fox News at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409 .
Good luck on further cutting those AT&T wireless costs, especially in light of this unforgiving economy.
